The Farther I go, the Behinder I get !

Wow...I'm REALLY falling behind on here! It's already the 13th of the month! This year is not just slipping away...it's Running away!

Things are still hectic at my workplace. The remodel is finished, but the rest of my furniture won't arrive until this Thursday, which is two more days away. I'm really pushing the limits here, as I have to conduct the board member's meeting next Tuesday and right now, there is no space to do that in. oh well...it will all have to work out, some way or another.

On a good note, my favorite brother will become a first time grandpa tomorrow morning as we welcome the little boy into the family. We are all excited about his arrival and can't wait to get the first look at him.

I have lots to do tonite to "catch-up" on everything that has been set aside for the last few days, so I'll be saying goodnite and hopefully will be back to blog again tomorrow.

Not a Productive ART Day

Today wasn't starting out as the best day ....I awoke with one of those splitting headaches I occasionally get. The worst part was that the dang headache woke me up around 7am, and I intended to sleep in late this morning.
I mainly worked on planning our girls retreat for May. By noon, when the headache was still pounding after taking everything in the house, I decided it was time to call the masseuse!

My usual girl wasn't working today, so I ventured out and tried a new girl. She was pretty good and the main thing was she got rid of the dreaded headache. Maybe I'll use her again if my regular girl is off work.

So, back at home, I DID get the reservation I was hoping for in Salado at The Inn on the Creek.
The other 11 girls will be very happy with our rooms.
We go on our "retreat" once every two years and this year is our ten year anniversary! It is our bi-annual birthday party and weekend visit. Every year is different and lots of fun.
Most of these girls started elementary school together and there are a about 3 that met up with us during junior high. Fifty years together for many of us! That's longer than most husbands last!
Speaking of husbands, only 2 out of the 12 have their original hubby. Some of the girls are single now and some are on their second husband, but a few have had more than two!

I had hoped to get some artwork done today, but it wasn't to be. Instead, I spoke to three of the girlfriends on the phone and two different B&B managers. But I DID get to Walmart after the massage to pick out some really cute matching fabrics that I will be using on a overnight tote bag for my granddaughter's birthday gift. It will have a little flying angel on it, with her name embroidered across the top. I'll try to get a photo posted when it's done.

Maybe tomorrow will be more productive.....after I get my hair done ..........

Hectic Start to the New Year

Boy..I'm not starting out so well with the new year and this blog site!
I have plenty of excuses though!....first I HAD to go to Canton when my girlfriend came down for the long weekend. We had fun there and saw plenty of stuff, but Canton just ain't what it used to be. It's all retail stuff with high prices. Mostly "boutique" clothing with high priced T-shirts and lots of home decor stuff that you see everywhere. We DID see a few shops that had some unique items in them.
One of which, I got in "trouble" in. Yep, this woman...the self appointed "camera police" came running out after me, scolding me, yelling...YOU CAN"T TAKE PICTURES IN HERE! THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL CREATIONS OF (whoever the gal was). I think my girlfriend and mother were stricken with humiliation....but I really wanted to yell at her..."WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU HAD A GOOD ASS WHUPPIN, WOMAN!" I TOOK THE PICTURES, ...WHATDAYA GOING TO DO ABOUT IT??? But of course, all I really did was lie to her and tell her I was taking them to show my daughter in law, who was coming to buy stuff tomorrow!
Who knew the old hag saw me sneakily snapping away with my iPhone. I TRIED to play like I was calling someone...but she was ON to me...

yeah...it's like they always say....You can't take me anywhere, anymore. Sometimes my brother's genes just come out in me, I can't help it!
Maybe I'll try to behave on the next trip to Canton. Maybe...........

Hurray for the New Year

We made it through another year! well, almost,...as the countdown is on.
I love this time of year, especially since my company gives me two days off with pay and that ends up making me have 5 wonderful days in a row of being OFF!
I had plans of using this weekend to create art or little clay people. Something I could put in my Etsy and ArtFire shops, but I really have a lot of research I need to do about the upcoming art retreat. And to make matters worse, or more delightful, however you choose to look at it...my girlfriend pointed out today that this is CANTON weekend! The largest outdoor shopping extravaganza in all of Texas and maybe the whole United States!
She may have to come down and spend the weekend so we can go browse through all the acres and acres of goodies, if for nothing else but inspiration!

I DID do a lot of interesting things tonite for my mother's Etsy shop. I have been studying up on what makes a successful shop and one of the articles told me about how to get your items listed on Google. The article was about a website that practically does all the work for you and will update your items you have to sell at different intervals you set up yourself. You can go see it for yourself at http://www.letsets.com/

Then I also found a really neat site that will let you see how many people "heart" or love your shop and also how many people have looked at your items for sale and who loves what items. What a great marketing tool to have! You can see the "Heartomatic" at http://www.craftcult.com/heartomatic.php?userid=

There is so much great information out there to learn about how to get your sales up, that I could spend the entire weekend just studying on all of that!
But for now...I'm going to definately do my art retreat research and I will be calling my girlfriend tomorrow so we can decide what time we want to get down to Canton! She better wear comfortable shoes or she is going to have a hard time keeping up with "superwoman" with the hormone implants!
Until later....I hope you have a wonderful and safe new year.

Monday, monday

So, today it was back to work. A typical Monday at my little office. The guys there are in the middle of remodeling our whole office, while I am tucked away in the "other room" which is actually an older office that we use as a meeting room. I have no idea where ANY of my stuff is...so most of the day I spent digging thru boxes or just standing there wondering....hmm....where IS it....??? But before I ever got to work, I had to go into Greenville, the closest BIG city! Errands to run, blood testing to get done (I'll have to tell you all about my new "all natural hormone implants" at a later blog!) and I had to run by the beauty supply house too. So naturally after all of that....I was forced to drive thru Starbucks and get a Vanilla Bean Frappucino to start the day off right!

I live in a very small town. One that everyone knows everyone else. The retired people sometimes just stop in to visit or to get some 'computer advice'. So, all in all, it was a typical Monday. I guess sometimes the residents think I'm a bit crazy. Like today..when one came in and the first thing I asked him was..."where are my envelopes!!!???" He just stood there looking at me, like maybe I thought he had stolen them or something. hahahah...oh well, a girl's gotta have a little fun!

I got a call today too, telling me that my new office furniture would be arriving next Monday! Yea...that will be a GREAT MONDAY! Then I will be able to move back into the finished remodel. New wood floors, new paneling, and a new dropped ceiling with lots of bright lighting!
Well, that's about all about my exciting day at work. Other than the "real" work..which you don't want to hear about anyway.

All of my children called today too. One daughter called as their plane was landing in Las Vegas, another called to tell me that she was nearly home from Mississippi and only about 2 hours away from being home again. And my son called from Branson, MO. He and his family are vacationing up there after the Christmas holiday. I also talked to my nephew's wife in Hawaii and to my neice in Forney, Texas.

Oh and another good thing! My sweet husband had been out shopping today and found a great new stainless steel outdoor grill. And to top that off...he had cooked delicious t-bone steaks for dinner! We raise our own beef on our farm and it is soooo tender and delicious!
What more could a wife ask for? hmmm...I'll try to think of something!

Ready for the New Year

Ok, I am making my new year's resolutions and this year, it's going to be to create something artistic once a week! I have read about those ambitious people that seem to be able to create something, however small, at least once a day, and that's not ME!
I have a bad problem about getting sidetracked by looking at what everyone else is creating on their etsy sites, so I'm going to work on that!
I like to set a few goals for the new year too, and so far, that is looking like a girl's trip to one of the great art retreats I've been reading about. I'm torn between Art & Soul and Art Unraveled.
Right now, Art Unraveled is winning, simply because it gives me more time to save up towards the week long classes. Also, I'm trying to talk another one of my girlfriends in going with me. Right now, a long lost classmate of mine from Washington State who had reconnected with me after 40 years, is going for sure. It will be a great reunion with her and a wonderful time of sharing in learning new crafts and methods. It's really funny how people are reconnected in different ways. Our connection was made thru "Classmates.com". I bet we have "talked" just about everyday since we found each other.
We are both so excited about going to an art retreat that we can't hardly stand it!
I received this partial list of the instructors that will be at Art Unraveled in Phoenix in August 2009.

Shopping at THE DUMP

Be careful when buying anything from THE DUMP!
It's fine if you buy it and can take it home RIGHT THEN....but don't expect things to go as planned if you are getting a delivery!
I first bought a bedroom set and Armoire and a nice Desk and hutch top. When it was time for delivery...they called and said they didn't have the desk. Well, they had checked when I bought and paid for it, and they had it THEN. I'm sure they sold it to someone else, but the salesman lied to me and told me it had been damaged beyond repair while in the warehouse and there were no more like it. So, I get a refund for it in about 10 days.
Next, I go back to the Irving store, and low and behold....there is the exact same desk on the showroom floor! so once again...with my same exact salesman, I purchase the desk AGAIN.
Now we line up the delivery day again.....and guess what!! when they call this time to schedule the delivery time....this time the guy tells me they have everything EXCEPT the BED!!!! (which they had the previous week when they scheduled delivery). GOOD GRIEF!
So, I call the salesman back ranting and raving about it, and he finally talks to some floor manager who tells him that there are no more beds. JUST GREAT!!!
But....they DO have another Bed that I might like, but it is more expensive. but..wait...they might be willing to make a deal with me and let me have it at the same bargain price I first paid.
Gee....how nice of them! So, now I have ANOTHER trip to make to the DUMP to see if they "might" actually "have" the bed when I buy it. So, just take this as a warning....they will sell your furniture right out from under you if anyone else wants it. The manager has done nothing so far to resolve any of this.
IF I ever get the furniture they are supposed to deliver.....I will NEVER go there to shop again.
Just be Warned!!
